My Favorite Self Tanner & Tips

8 Aug

This is one of my all time best secrets!! For those who know me and for those who don’t.  You must know that I LOVE to be a “Bronze Goddess” !  But I DO NOT get in the sun or in a tanning bed.  I’m a firm believer in sun protection!!  Not only because I’ve seen it accelerate the aging process but also because of the major skin cancer factor.  There is another way!!  So how do I keep my skin looking Bronzed without UVA/UVB harmful rays? Why Self Tanner of course!

I have tried almost every single self tanner on the market.  No really, I have.  The self tanning products have come a long way from the (won’t say the brand name) orange bottle with the horrible smell and made you look orange back in the early 90’s. Now, there are some really great ones, but this is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. It goes on so smooth and is easy to apply.  And as for the smell, wonderful!  Like coconuts!! This tanner is to get the tan you’ve always wanted. What I love most is it is Safe and ok for your face too!

Tip: I do suggest using a Tanning MIT when applying. It makes everything go on smooth and won’t get on your hands. This one feels like velvet almost and doesn’t slip off your body!

You can purchase the tanning mit here!

I also use this! 👇🏼
Tan Detox. This salon-inspired home treatment is designed to remove unwanted self tan build up, leaving skin ultra soft and smooth. Tan Detox is pampering bath oil that combines a luxurious blend of lavender, lemon and hazelnut oils to help create a calming spa-like environment at home. Ideal for use as part of your beauty regime, Tan Detox returns the skin to its normal tone ready for a fresh application of self tan. Includes a gentle exfoliating cloth.

This is fabulous to get your skin exfoliated and ready for the perfect application of self tanner.  I put about 2 caps full in a bath and soak in the bath.  Then take the wash cloth and massage your skin in circular motions.  Get all of the old self tanner and dead skin off.  Then after the bath, dry off and apply a nice non-fragrant moisturizing lotion all over.  You need to wait a while before applying self tanner.  That’s why I suggest doing this bath the night before you want to tan, or do the bath in the morning, then that night apply the self tanner, then the next day your skin is looking fabulous and bronzed!!

Just “Stuff” Everywhere…A letter to Moms

18 Nov

Seriously.  It is probably one of the biggest issues I have struggled with and continue to do so.  Just STUFF everywhere.  Right now my living room looks like a land mine of toys went off, all of my beautiful framed pictures on my PB Studio Wall Shelves are all laid down flat on each of the top 3 shelves because my one year old loves to knock them all down, toddler puffs are on the coffee table, the kitchen table ends up being the hording zone of STUFF and there is laundry in my dryer (my secret hiding place).  BUT I am finally having my cup of coffee that has been warmed up twice while Elena naps and I’m trying to get the energy to work out.  (Enter exhale now) Yes, when we have our precious little ones there is just STUFF everywhere and it can be overwhelming.  I know.  God forbid anyone wants to come over or heaven forbid “stop by”.  (PSA..People don’t do that to Moms of little ones.)  We all know its true, admit it.  BUT, and its a big BUT one day, and I don’t ever want that day to come,  I will have too much time on my hands.  My house will be immaculate and I will miss all that STUFF everywhere. So Moms (and Dads).  Lets try to give ourselves a break.  It is okay that my house is a “mess”.  Lets all say this together.  Hi, my name is ___________________ and it is okay that my house is a “mess”.  It means that we are being great parents and focusing on our kids.  I want to applaud us all for putting our children first. Keep up the good work Moms and Dads!  And in the words of Juan Pablo, “Esss Okay”. 😉 xoxo, Meredith “Children are not a distraction from more important work.  They are THE MOST important work!” – C.S. A Movement: Lifting Up and Celebrating other Moms

27 Feb

2723_1133141721366_2085516_n

When I became a Mom and held the precious gift God have given to us, it was the most magical feeling in the world.  I was now living for another.  Every thought, every move was for my precious baby girl.  Anything she needed I was there.  And when I became a Mom I started thinking in extreme detail about how I was gonna do my absolute best and give her the best of everything.  I made decisions for my baby that I thought was best.  For example: breastfeeding vs. formula, co-sleeping vs. crib, making baby food vs. buying pre-made food, staying at home vs. working, private vs. public school etc.  You get the idea.  But for some reason we are or I should speak for myself, I was not at all prepared for the competitiveness of other Moms.  I just couldn’t and still can’t understand the need for Mom’s to judge or criticize other Moms.  As for most Moms, I can assure you they don’t hold their baby and say,  “I plan on making some horrible choices and I plan on being “a bad mom.”   Call me a “glass half full kind gal” but I think most Moms want and try their absolute best!  Whats best for them and their family.  Of course there are bad days but there are also many good days!  I could go on and on with stories that I have experienced or stories my girlfriends tell me on how Moms compete with each other or criticize, but I don’t want that to be the focus.

IMG_8610

What I do want to focus on is how can we change this?  How can we as Moms change something that goes on in our society into something good?  I love the above quote.  “We rise by lifting others.”  Lets have a movement to stop judging other moms but instead lets support one another through encouragement or even a friendly smile.  I love doing this when I see other Moms out in public and one kid is having a meltdown, the other is begging for a toy,  you’ve seen this.  Instead of criticizing what she is or isn’t doing, just give her one of those kind smiles.  You never know what that could do for someone.  My Mom recently received a letter from an old friend in high school that wrote her to tell her the major impact she had on his life just because she took the time to smile at him and say hi, when no one else would. Lets not make the joy of Motherhood like high school by making Moms try to “fit in.”  We’ve been through high school with the cliques and nobody wants to go back.  We all have enough to do in the real world and “ain’t nobody got time for that.”  You see we never know what is going on with others, especially Moms.  Everything isn’t always as it seems and to quote – To Kill a Mockingbird – “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view — until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”

16966-celebrate-the-success-of-others-as-you-would-want-others-to_247x200_width

Let’s CELEBRATE one another!!  Let’s CELEBRATE that we are Moms and what an amazing bond that could be for us to all have and share together.  We are the only ones that know what it is like to be Moms.  We are so blessed to be Moms! I can’t tell you how much it means to me to have my dearest and best girlfriends, who are Moms in my corner.  They are just a text or phone call away when I need advice, need help making a decision or just being there to listen to me.  It means the world to me to have these special relationships who are Moms where there is no judgement, no assumptions, no critique.  That’s what I wish for us all whether we are best friends or just a casual acquaintance at a play date, or soccer game etc.

kids_jumping2

Another thing I would love is for all of us to CELEBRATE each others children!  I love receiving texts, emails or seeing pictures on social media of my girlfriends child when they just rolled over, or ate solid foods or crawled, or walked or got their orange white belt in jiu jitsu or just plain looking cute!  I CELEBRATE my friends kids!  I want the absolute BEST for them and I know they want the best for mine.  I cheer them on just as I would cheer mine on.  If we LIFT OTHERS, including Moms and their kids, WE WILL RISE!  We will rise in so many ways.  We will feel better about ourselves, and our Heavenly Father see’s our loving and kind behavior just as his son lead us by example.  “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;” Luke 6:37.  And my favorite,  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Luke 6:31.

1545134_10203360943730611_847749144_n

Lets all stop judging other moms, or competing with their kids.  Lets lead our kids by example of being kind to others, especially other Moms.  Lets support one another through encouragement.  We all know what it is like to be judged or criticized in some way by another Mom.  Unfortunately, at some point we all have done this.  So lets start the movement of not judging, of CELEBRATING one another!   And when you get a chance today, tomorrow, any day, CELEBRATE another Mom by LIFTING HER UP!

To all the Moms out there, “I THINK YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB!”

xoxo,

Meredith

Fall Nails

21 Sep

Can you believe FALL is here?!!  With the first day of fall officially starting tomorrow I was inspired to post about one of my favorite Fall Nail Trends. 🙂

Dark Nail Polish

All spring and summer I wear a soft light pink or french manicure but the minute there is a nip in the air and fall arrives I am onto my dark nail polish.  I’ve really fallen in love with Gel Nails.  Being a very active mother and washing my hands all the time to stay healthy, regular nail polish just doesn’t last that long.  Doesn’t mean I don’t love regular nail polish, I wear it on my toes, sometimes on my finger nails, as well I apply the regular nail polish on top of my gel nails if I want to switch it up a bit. 🙂  The color on my nails in the picture (taken in direct sunlight) to the left is a new color from Gelish named Jet Set.  It is a dark grey purple.  It’s GORGEOUS!!  You can get it at most Sally’s Beauty Supply stores or if your manicurist carries Gelish colors ask for Jet Set.  Or another great fall/winter Gelish color is Bella’s Vampire, or Strutt Your Stuff (Had to get that one on amazon.com)  There are many great colors out there, but these are just a few!

Here are Gelish’s Fall Collection Colors

Hope this has inspired you to go pick out your favorite fall dark color and share with your friends!  Just do it!  It’s so much fun!

XOXO,

Meredith

Mothers IMPACT

13 Aug

Mothers. We really do have the hardest but best “job” in the world!! Yes at times we all get overwhelmed and frustrated but that sweet smile or laugh makes it all worth it.  We really are making such an impact on our precious children.  Know that!! That’s a big deal, an honor really.  Let’s all keep up the great work and support our friends who are Mom’s.  For some reason there is a need for competition amongst Mom’s.  Who is in the best school, who has the cutest clothes, who is the best soccer player etc… what are we teaching our children?  We should be proud of our children but also proud of our friends children.  Let’s all take a break from the competition or even better stop it.  Call, even text or better yet hug your Mom friends and tell them “You are doing a fabulous job! I’m so proud of you!!”  As we all know.  It’s the little things that go a long way. 😉

Here’s a great Blog post from our Pastor about Mothers inspired my thoughts above.

Learning + Sharing = Growth

8 May

We have the blessing to live our life here on Earth.  Every day we have experiences and have the choice to learn from them.  Whether they happen to us or to others.  If we as humans, Gods children, do not take the time to learn and grow in every way, what is our journey here on Earth all about?  I am on a journey to continue to better myself.  To always be open to learning, growing, yearning to become the better me.  I think one of the best lessons I learned from a young age is to not judge.  God only knows what exactly is going on.  Especially don’t judge by outward appearances or what you think you may know about them, which opens yourself to making assumptions.  We all know when we assume we make an “ass out of u and me.”  And for some sad reason it is in our human nature to automatically believe the bad in people, even if it is not true, then to believe the good things when they are true.  Let’s all try to make a difference.  In ourselves and others.  If you always keep your heart and mind open you will be amazed at how people will surprise you in the best way as well as continuing to learn and grow as a person.  While we are on this journey of learning it is important that we give back and teach the things we have learned to be valuable.  I love helping and teaching to my younger (and older) friends and family.  It’s so rewarding.  If we all took a stance back…took the time to use our God-given senses and truly try to learn and see what really matters…take the time to listen to our heart, our soul, that’s what is important.  Have you ever looked in the mirror? I mean stare deep inside into your eyes.  You can’t lie and you can’t hide.  But it is a very freeing exercise if you do it….For me, it always comes back to, what would you have done unto you.  One of the best teachings of Jesus I must say.  Life is not about being perfect…nobody is…it is about truly trying, learning, wanting to be the best you you can be.

All my love SUPERMOMELS XOXO,

Meredith

What do we know about Sunscreen?!

10 Apr

Ahhh, the warm and sunny weather is upon us and it's my favorite time of year, just like many of you I'm sure.  We all start going outside more; walks, sitting outside to eat, picnics, going to the park, getting invited to cook "out" parties, and soon we will be going to the pool, the lake or the beach.  We all love that "sun kissed" look and heck, let's face it, we all look much better with a little "tan."  Just like the iconic Elizabeth Taylor sunning herself you see above.  Whether we like to have color or rather not have color we all can agree on wearing sunscreen is the absolute best thing for us right?  But have we actually looked to see what actual ingredients are in our sunscreen?!  I was shocked when I learned the truth about all of the harmful toxins that are in our sunscreens not to mention skin care in general.  Our skin is our largest organ and absorbs 8x faster than anything we could eat or drink.  So it would be smart of us to actually look at the ingrediants we are applying to our skin, especially our precious children's skin.

Read below some of the information that is out there on all the harmful toxins that are in most all sunscreens.

A consumer advocacy group has a warning for parents who think they‘re protecting their family with sunscreen: You may be getting burned.

The Environmental Working Group, a Washington-based nonprofit, has released an investigation of nearly 1,000 brand-name sunscreens that says four out of five don‘t adequately protect consumers and may contain harmful chemicals.

The group says that some of the products of the nation‘s leading brands — including Coppertone, Neutrogena and Banana Boat — are the poorest performers.

The active ingredients of sunscreens are compounds that absorb, reflect or block ultraviolet light. Sunscreens are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration not as cosmetics but as over-the-counter drugs. They’re rated based on their Sun Protection Factor (SPF); the higher the SPF, the better the protection against sunburn. (Please make sure you read that last sentence.  We've all been tricked to think the higher the number of SPF the higher we are protected.  Simply not true.)

The Environmental Working Group says that the SPF rating on a sun product is only part of what consumers need to know, and that the biggest problems with sunscreens are that they don‘t offer appropriate protection and that many contain unsafe ingredients.

Despite sunscreen use being higher than ever, skin cancer is still on the rise. The most common cancer in the United States, skin cancer accounts for nearly 50% of all cancer cases.

The Environmental Working Group just released their fourth annual Sunscreen Guide, with recommendations for only 39 of the 500 sunscreen products reviewed. The EWG found many products misleading in their claims, lacking in adequate protection from all types of ultraviolet radiation, and containing many potentially hazardous chemicals. Because the FDA still has not issued any sunscreen industry regulations, which they began drafting 32 years ago, consumers are left to discover the safest products on their own.

EWG Senior Vice President For Research Jane Houlihan said, "Many sunscreens available in the U.S. may be the equivalent of modern-day snake oil, plying customers with claims of broad-spectrum protection but not providing it, while exposing people to potentially hazardous chemicals that can penetrate the skin into the body."

New FDA research data reveal that a type of Vitamin A (found on the label as "retinyl palmitate" or "retinol"), which is in 41% of sunscreens, may actually increase the growth of cancerous skin tumors and lesions. While vitamin A is used in many skin products for its antioxidant properties to slow skin aging, when in the sun it may have photocarcinogenic properties that can damage the skin more than protect it. The FDA's one year study found that lab animals coated in a cream with Vitamin A and exposed to sunlight daily developed skin tumors and lesions 21% sooner than the control animals with no vitamin A. While the data are only preliminary, the FDA's full assessment will be issued in October.

I'm so happy that I found Senegence's Sunscreen! All Natural, and sun protection from Naturally Occurring Volcanic Ash!! It's so light, non-greasy, oil-free and works! My kids never get burnt! And they love it too (which they used to complain at my other ones and they were so greasy too). And I love that is safe for them!!

SeneSun™ SunScreen SPF 30 is an effective spritz-on sunscreen that is light and non-sticky. Unlike other sunscreens, SeneSun™ SunScreen is barely noticeable when applied as it does not feel thick, oily, or muddy. You know what we mean… other sunscreens seem as though they make you even hotter in the sun – like you applied a thick smothering blanket layer across the surface of your skin. Protect yourself while making your skin more beautiful with SenePlex® Complex. SeneSun™ SunScreen SPF 30 is oil-free, and you barely know it’s there.

You can purchase the Sunscreen here at www.NaturallyGlamorousArtistry.com

I am so happy that I am able to get this information out there to all the SUPERMOMELS (includes everyone ;)  This goes along with the whole reason I started this blog is to truly help people.  This is perfect timing of me learning about this to share with you before our Summer.  I hope that this has helped you and especially your precious children.

The Power of the Hand Written Note

22 Nov

We live in a fast paced society and where everything is online.  We have text messages, email, facebook, twitter, you name it, this technology in it’s own right is fabulous for certain purposes but we are loosing the personal touch with one another.  As well as teaching our children that it is ok to have relationships just electronically and not face to face, phone call to phone call or more importantly hand written on paper.

This time of year is my favorite time of year.  The song, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”  is an understatement.   I wish we could all live to be thankful and celebrate the meaning of Christmas all year long! We are coming up on the Thanksgiving Holiday and one of the many things I am thankful for is my parents really taught and instilled in me, “The Power of the Hand Written Note”.  My Mother and Father sat me down at a young age and we hand wrote thank you notes for my birthday parties, sent Birthday Cards, Congratulations Cards, a card “Just Because”, Sympathy Cards, Christmas Cards…  They led and still lead me by example, still sending notes, and cards today.

Like I said we live in such a fast paced society and people don’t take the time to breathe for prayer, meditation, never the less sit down hand write, address and stamp a hand written note.  And when I say time, we may be talking 5-10 minutes tops.  You know when I sit down to write a note or I think of someone when I’m looking at cards and I take the time to think of them, hand write them, you have no idea how much I believe it means to people.  Everyone, especially in this economy, when they check their mail, it’s full of bills and junk mail, and when they receive a hand written note or card that was picked out for them, I can tell you it means a lot.

You never know what someone is going through at that moment in time when they receive your thoughtful note.  You could be a big part of their life just for taking the time to think of them and hand write them.  And more importantly you are being a thoughtful and caring person in this society, which I believe speaks volumes.  Unfortunately, some/most of our youth of our time are not appreciative and have an “entitlement” mentality.  There are many reasons why I believe this is so, but I honestly believe that if you teach your children “The Power of the Hand Written Note”  it is a huge life lesson, it’s not just the act of writing a thank you note or sending birthday card.  For me, I learned to always think of others before myself.  To care.

I want to thank my Mother, Joey Rothfuss and my Father, David Ruddle for teaching me for what I believe to be a life long lesson at a young age that has played a major role of who I am.  I am so proud of so many things you taught me and thankful that you took the time to teach me the “Power of the Hand Written Note”.  I can promise you that I will pass this on to my precious daughter, I’ve already started.  She will help me write her thank you notes for her birthday this year.

I hope my words spoke to you and if you haven’t been taking the time to write someone in a while, I would love if you would.  I know that it would mean the world if you took the time to write your Mom, your Dad, your Grandmother, help your child write their Grandma or Grandpa.  Just take the time to let them know what you are doing and that you love them and are thinking of them.  I can promise you that piece of paper with ink is more precious than any expensive gift you can get on Black Friday.

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and a Blessed Christmas Season!

All my love to you XOXO,

Meredith
